Thought you missed the Taste of La Posada announcements?

Good news! You didn’t miss the Taste of La Posada!

We moved the Taste of La Posada to Friday, March 23, 2018, 11 AM -3 PM.

Please review the below flyer….

La Posada at Park Centre is Arizona’s 1st accredited  Continuing Care Retirement Community located in Green Valley, AZ, 23 miles south of Tucson.  We offer award-winning, maintenance-free living choices: spacious apartments, Garden Homes, and Park Centre Homes.

Save The Date! Benefit Concert for Youth On Their Own is November 4.

Need a break from Oktoberfest and chili contests?

May we suggest an afternoon of uplifting music basking in the fall sun of Southern Arizona?

Save the date for Saturday, November 4th, for the ballads of Tucson’s Folk Rock Goddess Amber Norgaard and Friends.

Amber Norgaard, Sabra Faulk, and Seth Murzyn will take the stage to spotlight a local non-profit serving Arizona’s homeless youth, Youth On Their Own!

An astonishing fact: Arizona is the 5th worst US state for child homelessness! (courtesy of the National Center on Family Homelessness, November 2014).

This concert benefits Youth On Their Own, a non-profit organization that strives to empower Arizona’s homeless youth to stay in school by providing financial assistance, basic human needs, and one-on-one guidance. For over 30 years they have empowered over 16,000 homeless youth to remain in school and pursue opportunities for self-sufficiency.

Free admission to the concert.  Monetary donations for Youth On Their Own are accepted at the concert.

The concert begins NOON in The Shoppes at La Posada on the La Posada campus in Green Valley, AZ.

If there is rain, the concert moves indoors into Posada Java.

For concert updates, please check the Facebook event or watch for postings on La Posada’s Facebook Pages: La Posada Green Valley, AZ, and The Shoppes at La Posada.

DREAMS Come True program now accepting nominees!

“The Future Belongs to Those Who Believe in the Beauty of Their Dreams.”  – Eleanor Roosevelt

DREAMS Come True is a program for area residents age 55+ that can make a lifelong goal become reality or fulfill a new but meaningful life experience that has been out of reach. A committee of community representatives with the staff of Posada Life Community Services and the Posada Life Foundation make selections twice annually from nominations received throughout the year.  The program is made possible by the Posada Life Foundation, and charitable contributions to DREAMS Come True are most welcome.

The 1st DREAM fulfilled came in the form of a trip for an area woman who longed to see two little granddaughters before her eyesight failed. DREAMS Come True was able to arrange the trip and a family reunion dinner.

The 2nd DREAM brings back memories for a Korean War-era Navy veteran. Kodiak Island is the destination and the veteran and his wife are excited to travel to Alaska where he can see the many changes that have occurred in 60+ years – and to search for what remains of that era of history.

The 3rd DREAM awarded allowed a retired teacher to spend her October birthday with her sick son in Arkansas.

A 4th DREAM was awarded to 2 seniors. One wants the thrill of flying again in a biplane; the other to tap dance in an on-stage performance in front of an audience.

A 5th DREAM was awarded to a young lady who wanted to live the thrill of a tandem parachute jump and to a hard working caregiver who wanted to visit the Grand Canyon National Park with her family members.

Do you want to help make someone’s dream a reality?

DREAMS Come True is NOW accepting applications for nominations until Tuesday, October 31, 2017!

Here are the guidelines needing to be fulfilled to nominate a worthy senior:

  • Minimum Age: 55
  • U.S. Citizen or legal U.S. resident
  • Unable to fulfill the dream on their own
  • Capable of experiencing the dream
  • Dreams granted to residents living in the following Arizona geographic areas: Green Valley, Sahuarita, Amado, Arivaca, and Tubac

Please contact Ellen March, Director, Community Center, for further information at 520-393-6840, or read DREAMS Come True info & guidelines, and submit an application using the below links:

Ice Cream and Music Friday Concerts start July 21!

What goes great with ice cream during the Arizona summertime?

It’s not hot fudge or the whip cream and cherry 🙂 …….

Take the time to thrive between monsoon rains and Arizona “winter” (sometimes, what we call our summer heat season) to get outside and enjoy music from great local bands.

Beginning Friday,  July 21,  the Ice Cream and Music Friday Concert Series returns to the Shoppes at La Posada!

This year’s concert series benefits and supports The Community Food Banks of Amado & Green Valley.  We are spotlighting this great cause because every year the local food banks mission expands to meet the food insecurity needs of the Southern Arizona community.  From past summer concerts, non-perishable food and monetary donations ended up helping our local food bank meet and fill the needs of their customers.  Your support of our concert series may assist a great friend, fellow workmate, wonderful volunteer, future scholar, or kindly senior fill their pantry with food.

Also, all receipts earned at Posada Java during the concert hours ( 6 – 8 PM) will be donated to the local food bank too! So, go ahead and have that frosty treat and dance it off with your sweetheart or friends.

Who is performing at our 2017 concerts?

  • Friday, July 21, Les Roberts, vintage and contemporary Jazz.
  • Friday, July 28, Good Question, a band bringing their own unique beat to classic rock, country, and rhythm & blues
  • Friday, August 4, The Banjo Blasters, lively, banjo music  playing from swing to jazz

  • Friday,  August 18, The Dust Devils,  traditional and newgrass style bluegrass music
  • Friday,  August 25,  The Jukebox Junqies Band, MOVE, DANCE, and FEEL the music of yesteryears. Change in concert time! This concert begins at 5 PM.

Free admission to all concerts.  Donations of non-perishable food items and cash accepted at the concerts for The Community Food Banks of Amado & Green Valley.

All concerts begin 6 PM in the courtyard at The Shoppes! If monsoon rains visit on our concerts dates, we move the concert inside to Posada Java.
