Progress Continues On La Posada Second Campus

Progress continues on the La Posada at Pusch Ridge development, with approval received from the Town Council of Oro Valley in June of an updated Conceptual Architecture plan for the beautiful 80-acre community.  Property owned by La Posada west of North Oracle Road at First Avenue and Lambert in Oro Valley is an ideal setting for the development of another campus for Green Valley’s award-winning senior living provider.

An earlier plan for development of the Oro Valley property was put on hold mid-2018 due to critical shortages of construction sub-contractors and uncertainty of key materials.

Much of the initial site work has been completed on the 80-acre parcel. La Posada management and representatives are in ongoing contact with Town of Oro Valley officials to move the project design toward final approval for construction.  In the two years since the original project was halted, La Posada’s management team has been updating concepts to enhance the design, construction quality, and livability of the project.

Final design approvals and groundbreaking of La Posada at Pusch Ridge are now expected in early spring, with an opportunity in the coming weeks for local seniors to participate in a Priority Sales Program, to learn more about reserving a residence in the new community. Move-ins are planned to begin in late 2024.

“We are excited about development of our second campus, with an opportunity to offer a new and wonderful lifestyle option for the residents of the Oro Valley area,” said Simon Davis, Chair of the La Posada Board of Trustees.   The La Posada organization is led by Joni Condit, President and CEO.

La Posada is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Green Valley, dedicated to providing a stimulating and enriching environment for seniors.  Established over 34 years ago, and sponsored by Tucson Medical Center, La Posada has an estimated annual impact of more than $50 million on the economy of Southern Arizona.  La Posada currently employs more than 600 staff, and serves a community of nearly 800 residents.  It maintains active community partnerships with area schools and service organizations.  La Posada is recognized nationally as a leader in innovation and accountability in the field of senior living.

La Posada Campus Update for June 2020

Please read!

La Posada campus update for June 2020.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, La Posada has continued to follow the recommended guidelines of the CDC and local public health agencies as well as the Executive Orders of the Governor. As we now approach the gradual reopening of different aspects of the campus, we are carefully considering these same recommendations in order to protect the well-being and safety of residents, our staff, and the general public.

As a precaution, the La Posada campus is still temporarily closed to visitors and the public. Presently, no non-essential visitors are allowed in any residential neighborhoods, or anywhere else on campus. On June 1, 2020, the Vensel Treasure Shoppe reopened to the public. Shopping at the Vensel Treasure Shoppe is by appointment only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. If you are interested, please call 648-4082 to schedule.

Posada Java and the Green Valley – Sahuarita Family History Library remain temporarily closed at the Shoppes of La Posada. At this time, Posada Java is not available for takeout or to-go orders. During this closure, we will be making some renovations that will enhance the safety and service to our customers.

Unfortunately, the 2020 Ice Cream and Music Friday Nights Summer Concert series has been cancelled out of concern for the safety of all.

We promise to update the public when the campus can reopen to visitors. and when Posada Java is ready to reopen for business.

All public events and classes remain temporarily cancelled at this time.

Posada Life Community Center, except for the Senior Lunch Program, is temporarily closed. The Senior Lunch Program meals continue to be distributed on a pick-up or to-go basis, not dine-in.

La Posada Outpatient Therapies remain temporarily closed but we are making plans to reopen in the not-too-distant future.

All delivery drivers are required to wear face masks when dropping off goods on the La Posada campus.

Thank you for your continued interest and support. We encourage you all to stay safe, practice social distancing, and wear a face mask to protect others.

La Posada Coronavirus Pandemic Response Update!

An Update from La Posada.

At La Posada, we have always viewed our connection with our surrounding community among our most important relationships. Over the past 33 years, we have developed many friendships, supported sponsorships, and provide services and programs for the residents of Green Valley and Sahuarita. As a non-profit entity focused on maximizing the well-being of seniors, we have a sense of obligation to the success and health of the local community.

Our role has never felt more real. More than just an essential business, we are truly home to more than 750 residents, as well as a community family that also includes our 600 management and staff. Our dedicated volunteer board of trustees, many of whom live or have worked in this area, are committed to La Posada’s community partnerships.

Early on, we took a number of steps to prevent a potential coronavirus infection. We put detailed plans in place to support our residents and staff to reduce the opportunity for exposure, adapting many services including home-delivered dining, “To Your Door” grocery services, personal shopping, live broadcasting of key communications, and videotaped fitness programs, to name a few.

Late April 16, we were notified of our first positive case, an employee who thankfully has no direct contact with residents and who is at home and doing well. We are doing thorough contact tracing and are implementing aggressive actions to further limit the spread. We will continue to screen staff daily for COVID-19 symptoms at the start of any work shift. Social distancing has been stressed and masks have been distributed to all employees and made available to residents. Special employee policies for pandemic sick leave or displaced worker assistance have been put in place. Some staff are now doing different jobs. Limited daycare will continue to be available to assist some essential La Posada employees.

There has been a temporary pause to many of our community connections. Since the awareness of higher risk levels in early March, we have taken numerous precautionary measures, including the cancellation of public events and resident gatherings, and the restriction of non-essential visitation in La Posada Assisted Living and Independent Living residential neighborhoods. It feels strange, and like the rest of our staff and residents, I miss the frequent social interaction and hugs that La Posada is known for.

Recently, we suspended the preschool program at the Los Ninos de Valle and the Adult Day program at Posada Life Community Services. The Senior Lunch Program now distributes seven frozen meals a week to its regular attendees, rather than coming to the Community Center to dine with others. Our other public venues at La Posada, including Posada Java and the Vensel Treasure Shoppe, suspended operations earlier in March. Posada Java is now the temporary warehouse for our grocery program.

Happily, we can report that morale remains very good at La Posada these days. While none of us has experienced anything quite like this, a new normal has supported our residents in their efforts to effectively self-isolate, stay healthy, and save lives. As always, we work to stay connected, to maintain an open path of consistent communication, and to care for one another.

When the concerns of the pandemic can be safely relaxed, we look forward to resuming the social, family relationships that gathering together can bring. And we look equally forward to opening our doors to all of you, our good friends.

La Posada Suspends Preschool and Adult Day Services beginning March 30, 2020!

La Posada Suspends Operations At Los Niños de Valle Preschool and Adult Day Service Programs.

Effective Monday, March 30, 2020, La Posada will suspend the preschool program at the Los Niños del Valle and the Adult Day program at Posada Life Community Services. Attendees of both programs have been notified, and will also be contacted when the programs can be resumed. Earlier, the Senior Lunch Program announced it will be distributing frozen meals to its regular attendees, rather than eating at the Community Center.

This is the latest of a series of precautionary moves at La Posada to limit the potential spread of the coronavirus, with a population recognized to be at greater risk. Currently, there have been no identified cases of COVID-19 among the residents and staff of La Posada and Posada Life Community Services.

Since the awareness of higher risk levels in early March, La Posada has taken aggressive precautionary measures, including the cancellation of public events and resident gatherings, the restriction of non-essential visitation in Assisted Living and Independent Living areas, the closure of resident dining venues, and has created a new program of ‘To Your Door’ meal delivery and grocery purchases. There are approximately 750 total residents and some 600 employees at La Posada.

Other public venues at La Posada, including Posada Java, the Green Valley – Sahuarita Family History Library, and the Vensel Treasure Shoppe, suspended operations earlier in the month.

All La Posada staff are being screened daily for COVID-19 symptoms at the start of any work shift. Special employee policies for pandemic sick leave or displaced worker’s assistance have been put in place. Limited daycare will continue to be available to assist some essential La Posada employees.

La Posada will keep everyone updated on when Posada Life’s Los Niños del Valle preschool and Adult Day Services reopens. Please watch this website and La Posada social media venues for further campus-wide updates.

La Posada is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing an environment of well-being and enrichment for seniors. Established 33 years ago, with guidance from Tucson Medical Center and the late Keith Walden of Farmers Investment Company, La Posada was estimated in 2017 to have a $50 million annual impact on the economy of Southern Arizona, with 600 employees and active partnerships with area schools and service organizations. It is recognized nationally as a leader in innovation and accountability in the field of senior living.

La Posada’s Emergency Plan for Coronavirus (COVID-19). Please read and share…

La Posada logo.

Please read! La Posada’s Emergency Plan for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The health and well-being of our residents, employees, and all of our families are of utmost importance during this unprecedented time. As we all are witnessing the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation evolving by the minute, we wanted to let families and friends know the measures we are taking to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, customers, and staff. We are following recommendations put forth by the CDC as well as the Pima County Health Department and Arizona Department of Health in an effort to protect those we serve while ensuring the continuity of essential services and care. Our executive team, under the overall guidance of La Posada’s Board of Trustees, is working together with management and resident leaders to proactively implement our Emergency Plan as needed.

One of the most important aspects of mitigating a pandemic is to slow down the spread of the infection, referred to by experts as “flattening the curve“. Importantly, this helps to avoid overwhelming our healthcare systems and allows for better treatment of those who need it, resulting in fewer deaths. It also allows time for effective testing to be distributed and hopefully the development of treatments. La Posada aims to do our part to help flatten the curve of the virus by taking measures to reduce public exposure.

Some of these measures include:

  • Seven staff and resident forums to inform about the symptoms and dangers that COVID-19 and the seasonal flu pose with particular concern for senior citizens.
  • All staff has been trained about the importance of proper handwashing. Reminder signs have been employee bathrooms.
  • Infection control protocols have all been reviewed with nursing staff throughout campus.
  • Care Management nursing staff are triaging sick residents in independent living by telephone to determine what care is needed and to assist in making arrangements to see a medical provider if needed.
  • Management is regularly checking with Green Valley Fire to align procedurally to assure the best measures in 911 calls are taken.
  • La Posada’s three Assisted Living buildings are closed to all visitors until further notice. Residents of La Joya, La Via, and La Hacienda have been asked to remain on the campus except for emergency medical care. We recognize how difficult this will be for residents and their loved ones but limiting potential exposure is a crucial element of containment of the virus.
  • Residents in independent living have been discouraged to have any visitors to campus and encouraged to voluntarily isolate in their homes.
  • No outside visitors are allowed for now in any of La Posada’s six dining rooms. The “Gourmet To Go” pick up and go service is readily available and plans to close all on-campus dining rooms will be implemented on Tuesday, March 24, and will be replaced with meal service delivery to resident homes.
  • The Continental Club for non-resident members has been temporarily suspended until further notice.
  • All group classes and off-campus trips have been canceled. Six video-taped exercise programs are available to residents on La Posada’s in-house television.
  • The monthly Resident Council meeting was closed to attendees but was broadcast live to residents in their homes.

Special Events that have been canceled include:

  • The Taste of La Posada (March 20)
  • The final Concert for a Better Community at the Shoppes
  • Farmers Market at the Shoppes (Mondays)
  • AARP Tax Services in the Recreation Center
  • Off-campus groups’ use of La Posada meeting spaces
  • The Performing Arts program at the end of March
  • Great Decisions Series
  • The Friday Resident Forums
  • Caregiver Event Day at Posada Life Community Services
  • The Community Centenarian Breakfast

Other events not mentioned are subject to change.

From all of us at La Posada, be safe and stay healthy!
